The Engraved style of the Zen Vedic Series is hand-engraved by skilled artisans onto a lathed, smooth-finished bronze surface, with each line, petal, and motif cut into the metal by a craftsperson working point by point. Unlike laser etching, which is fast and identical across every bowl, hand engraving carries the rhythm of the maker's hand, the small variations in pressure and pacing that make each piece quietly individual. The result is artwork with depth, warmth, and the unmistakable signature of human craft, paired with the rich, sustained voice the Vedic Series is built around.
The result is a bowl that earns a second look before you ever strike it, and a third one after you do. Whether it lives on an altar, finds its way into session work, or sits where it can simply be looked at, an Engraved bowl carries its presence in both directions, what you see and what you hear, and the time invested in each one shows in every detail.
Engraved Design
This Engraved Zen Vedic Series bowl is hand-finished with a procession of large pointed-arch cartouches that wrap the body, each cartouche centered on a prominent rayed rosette and filled with curling vines and small leaves set against a finely hatched ground. Around and above the cartouches, smaller floral motifs and trailing foliage fill the surrounding field, giving the composition a clear focal rhythm where the eye moves from one arched panel to the next around the entire bowl. A fine beaded band traces the upper rim, framing the composition, while the lathed interior is left smooth and unadorned, returning attention to the bowl's pure resonant voice. Together, the design draws on the Indo-Persian pointed-arch tradition long associated with South Asian decorative arts, where the framed central rosette suggests the sun, the open blossom, and the focal stillness at the heart of a flowering field, a bowl that speaks through pure pattern and the deliberate rhythm of the engraver's hand.
About the Zen Vedic Series
The Zen Singing Bowls Vedic Series is hand-crafted in India by skilled artisans working in a long-standing metalsmithing tradition. Though singing bowls are often referred to as Tibetan Singing Bowls, Tibet itself does not produce them. The bowls associated with this practice are made across the broader Himalayan and South Asian region, with India being one of the key centers of production. Each Vedic Series bowl is shaped, hammered, and finished by hand, carrying the small variations and character marks that come with traditional craftsmanship. No two bowls are identical, and each one reflects the maker's touch.
